Description
In this assessment, viewers will be tested on various components of the Blue Bird Chassis including:
- Frame and Structure Components
- Maintaining and Adjusting the Front Axle and Toe Settings
- Maintaining the Rear Axle
- Identifying and Maintaining Air and Spring Suspensions
- Diesel and Gasoline Fuel Systems
- Propane Fuel Systems
- CNG Fuel Systems
- Electric Bus
Objectives
- Review general chassis frame components
- Identify different structural fasteners used during chassis construction
- Discover body-to-chassis attachment point inspection frequency and specifications
- Identify the number and location of the front axle grease fittings
- Recognize the steps for adjusting the toe setting of steer tires
- Utilize Service Manual flow charts to navigate steering system issue resolution
- Describe the proper fill level of rear axle lubricant, and explain the conditional requirements needed to perform the check
- Locate the proper torque requirements for the rear axle lubricant fill plug
- Using the Service Manual, identify the proper rear axle lubricant change intervals
- Reference proper torque requirements for the U-bolts and torque rod
- Identify key air and spring suspension components
- Review the proper torque and tightening pattern of suspension U-bolts for each suspension type
- Verify and adjust the correct air suspension ride height
- Locate and inspect tank vents
- Identify the location of fuel system filters
- Test the functionality of fuel senders on diesel and gasoline buses
- Describe the location of the fuel system shut-off and how to disable the flow of fuel
- Identify the location and service interval of the serviceable fuel filters
- Locate and describe tank vent maintenance
- Identify CNG fuel filter maintenance procedures
- Identify the location of the fuel shut-off/isolation valves
- Describe how the fuel tank level is determined on the CNG unit
- Identify the three ways to disable the high voltage system
- Using the driver’s pre-trip inspection form, perform an inspection to ensure the high voltage portion of the Electric Vehicle is safe for operation
- Explain three ways to ensure the batteries obtain a full charge in cold weather
