This course covers an overview of the Electric Bus as it relates to operators, service technicians, or anyone working around the EV. This course includes high voltage safety, enroute emergencies, pre-trip inspection protocol, system activation, best practices for driving and charging / batteries, and preventative maintenance.
Please complete the EV Level 1 Verification - Exam course after completing this course in order to be counted as having become an EV Level 1 Verified technician.
Objectives
- Recognize 3 benefits of Electric Buses
- Identify the 8 major components of the Electrical System on the EV
- List 3 general safety guidelines that are unique to the Electric Bus
- State the general voltage amount for the High Voltage Cables
- State the color of all High Voltage Cables
- Identify Built in High Voltage Safety Features
- Properly disable the High Voltage System
- Place in order the procedures for Shutting down the high voltage system
- Identify the area of the bus that is not acceptable for the usage of extrication tools
- Recognize proper procedures for responding to emergencies regarding Fires and Submerged Electric Vehicles
- Define the differences in protocol when towing an Electric Bus from the front vs. from the rear
- Identify instrumentation and system component similarities and differences between Blue Bird Electric Buses and traditional Internal Combustion engine buses
- Conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection of the Electric Bus
- Engage the systems of the Electric Bus and prepare it for operation
- Drive the Electric Bus using best practices to maximize each charge
- Identify ideal charging temperatures for batteries on the Blue Bird Electric bus
- Recognize 3 tips for charging batteries in cold weather
- State the expected battery life on the Blue Bird Electric bus
- Identify strategies to retain long term battery capacity
- Compare maintenance task differences between a Diesel Powertrain and an Electric Drivetrain
- Match maintenance provider to maintenance task
- Identify maintenance tasks and intervals for serviceable components unique to the Electric Bus
